"Sleep is an uncompromising interruption of the theft of our time from us by capitalism."
—— Jonathan Crary (24/7: Late Capitalism and the Ends of Sleep)
Contemporary society is becoming increasingly complex, exhibiting fascist and imperialist tendencies.
Within it, we are coerced into a constant, 24/7 state of "wakefulness" and "mobilization," relentlessly robbed of our restful nights.
Even as authority surveils our minds and bodies, attempting to drive us toward homogenization,
the unconscious realm of "sleep" remains the one domain that can never be governed.
Sleep is the ultimate act of non-cooperation where our physical bodies completely detach from the system; it is our final sanctuary.
The act of bringing private bedcovers into a public space generates a unique sense of humor and profound relaxation.
It is precisely with these qualities that we counter the system.
