Citrus Universe - C.Limon / 2023
Fresh Lemon, Plexiglass, Aluminium Strings
A small sculpture made of thinly sliced fresh lemons. Citrus fruits have been a subject in still-life paintings since ancient times. Even today, they are widely used in various beverage commercials, and their tartness is closely related to the expression of freshness.
The instructions for the artwork are as follows:
'Purchase one lemon from a distant country at the market every day,
slice it into seven pieces, and place them on strings.
Continue this process until the lemon is no longer available.'
The sliced lemons lose their freshness and dry out within a day. Thanks to the functioning of the art system and the global transportation network, the lemon sculpture is exhibited indefinitely without losing its original freshness. The moment has changed eternally.
This work was created based on the aging and the fading freshness and youth that continue to progress steadily, even in the seemingly timeless present experienced by artists during the long-lasting pandemic.
